Saturday was an extremely long day for daddy and Jonathan. I have no clue exactly when Jonathan woke up but I do know that he woke his father at 7 a.m. They were out the door and on the way to Daytona International Speedway by 8 a.m.
You could say they were definitely one of the first ones there. The were able to get parking for the $20 but as race got closer everyone started raising the prices of parking. They were able to walk thru the Daytona International Speedway Museum. In fact Jonathan was able to get a picture of him in front of the Dale Earnhardt Sr. statue that is just outside the museum.
They walked a lot on Saturday…..and daddy said a lot was an understatement. The good news is that the speedway put in escalators. The fan zone was not much for him this year as the rain started so there were hardly anyone out there. The seats they had, in my opinion were awesome. They were in the “new” sections they added. That is where the cars exit from pit row onto the track. You can see all around the track from being this high into the stands. After the rain delay of 1 1/2 hours the race finally started. Jonathan said he was able to display is American flag when they sang the national anthem. Yes he took his full size American flag with him to the race. Austin Dillon won the race and then it was time to come home. They got home almost midnight ….yeah they were there approximately 15 hours.
Well daddy told Jonathan that the next race they go to at Daytona, they will not leave the house until noon and will pay the price for parking then. That all the walking and slow time of nothing to do was a little too much for him. Besides they really had nothing to do for almost 3 hours. Jonathan was very receptive of the idea. Which is just another sign of him growing up and becoming more of an adult.
I am glad they were able to have their daddy & son time.
